North Carolina’s season ended a few weeks ago, and it’s time to begin our 2025-26 player reviews.

For this player review, we take a look at Jonathan Powell’s 2025-26 season. He came to Chapel Hill from West Virginia, where he averaged 8.3 points and 3.1 rebounds in 32 games, including 23 starts. Powell was a solid three-and-D wing off the bench for Carolina who improved as the season went along.

Here’s a breakdown of Powell’s season.

2025-26 stats: 4.8 points, 2.4 rebounds, 0.7 assists per game, 38.1 percent field goal shooting in 33 games

The move would send Powell to his third program in as many seasons. In his lone year with the Tar Heels, he averaged 4.8 points and 2.4 rebounds and appeared in all 33 games off the bench, shooting 38.1% from the field. Most of his attempts came from 3-point range, where he shot 36.5%.

Powell’s efficiency climbed in ACC play, when he shot 42.4% overall and 43.5% from 3. His top performance at North Carolina came in an 80-62 win over USC Upstate on Dec. 13, when he scored a career-high 17 points.

However, Powell struggled in UNC’s three-game losing streak to end the season, going 2-for-13 (15%) from the field and 1-for-9 (11%) from beyond the arc. In the first-round loss to VCU, Powell shot 1-for-6 and went 0-for-5 from 3-point range.
