John Carlson to Flyers rumor ignites NHL buzz before free agency originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
John Carlson was a surprise move at the NHL trade deadline, from the Washington Capitals to the Anaheim Ducks.
Now, the veteran defenseman is entering free agency, and the Philadelphia Flyers are rumored to be in the picture.
There's a lot of connecting the dots to do here, so nothing is a done deal.
The first piece is that NHL insider Elliotte Friedman said that it sounds like Carlson may want to return East after being in Anaheim.
Then, this report on X gained a lot of attention:
To confirm what @FriedgeHNIC reported, I have been told John Carlson has a lot of interest in joining the #Flyers on a 1-2 year deal. Carlson wants to end his career back on the East coast and thinks the Flyers could be a great spot for him. #IgnitetheOrange

It's not clear for sure whether that's reputable, and besides, it's not guaranteeing anything.
There's certainly some buzz in the Flyers' fanbase about it, though.
Before the trade, Carlson had spent his entire NHL career with the Caps.
The 36-year old played his first 1,143 NHL games with Washington and tallied 166 goals and 605 assists (771 points).
He played 16 regular season games with Anaheim and had four goals and 10 assists.
Would he really go to Philly and do battle in the Eastern Conference with the Capitals? The hockey world will find out soon enough.
