Cincinnati Bengals players see what many outsiders consider a negative as something of a strength.
After the NFL schedule release, one Bengals player was unbothered by a scheduling quirk.
Add Joe Burrow to the list.
Speaking about his Bengals’ early Week 6 bye, Burrow said the Bengals need to leverage it into a run.
"Week Six, you're into the flow of the season, and you're geared up and still ready to go," Burrow said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. "You probably won't be ready for it physically and mentally. We've to figure out a way to take advantage of it … it's something we've done before."
The Week 6 bye is the earliest of the Zac Taylor era. It’s also a year or so removed from the NFL letting teams put byes after international trips. Instead of a break right after the Week 9 game in Madrid, the Bengals come home and play two straight primetime games, then seven more games right after that.
Granted, Burrow and the Bengals have hit on big runs before. The criticism of the bye week positioning is more due to concern about rest and health. If things go their way, though, outsiders have seen the Bengals turn in big win streaks regardless of breaks.
