Joao Cancelo’s future takes another twist in fresh blow to Barcelona

Joao Cancelo’s future has taken a new twist amid speculation that the defender’s parent club Al-Hilal could be set to change managers this summer.

Simone Inzaghi is the current boss of the Saudi Pro League side but is currently negotiating a contract termination and could be replaced by Vítor Pereira, per Sport.

If Pereira does arrive at Al-Hilal it’s expected he will try to keep Cancelo at the club. The defender has made it pretty clear he wants to stay at Barcelona but still has a year left on his contract with the Saudi club.

The current situation has held up talks about Cancelo’s future and means negotiations may have to wait until the managerial issue has been resolved.

Cancelo is also now on international duty with Portugal at World Cup 2026, another factor that could potentially hold up talks over his future.

The 32-year-old arrived at Barcelona on loan in the winter window for a second spell and played his way into Hansi Flick’s starting XI.

Barca are hoping he can stay but keeping him at the club may not be a straighforward task this summer.
