The New York Knicks have something no other team chasing Victor Wembanyama this postseason has had: a player who knows him both on and off the court. Jeremy Sochan spent his first three-plus NBA seasons in San Antonio as one of Wembanyama's closest teammates and friends, even inspiring Wemby to dye his hair blonde. Now, after being waived/signing with the Knicks midseason, Sochan is delivering the Knicks their first real intel on the player standing between them and a championship.

While Sochan previously stated the importance of providing his current team as much intel as possible on the Spurs, he specifically spoke about Wembanyama recently, as Jared Schwartz of the New York Post (via New York Basketball on X) highlighted.

"Being that tall he gets tired…Give him different looks and (not beat him up but) be very physical, and make him run," Sochan said. "And he’s gonna get tired, he’s gonna have to take some plays off in my opinion."

Although Sochan played in just 16 games during the regular season for the Knicks, his biggest impact could come from his knowledge of the Spurs' game plan and approach to maximizing Wemby's unique talents. Sochan, who started 73 of 74 games played for the Spurs in the 2023-24 season, averaged north of 11.0 points per game in each of his first three seasons, but fell out of the rotation during his final stretch with the team.

Now, the Knicks are hoping that any information he can provide on their upcoming NBA Finals opponent can be used to help contain one of the NBA's most unique and gifted athletes. It's a tall task for any team, but Sochan's insight could be integral to helping the Knicks snap their NBA title drought when the two teams kick off the 2026 NBA Finals.
