One of the offseason moves that Adam Peters made for the Washington Commanders this year was to retain running back Jeremy McNichols. McNichols hasn't had a large role with Washington over the last couple of years, spending much of his time on special teams. But he's entering his ninth season in the NFL, and he has shown that he can contribute on offensive plays, too.
After McNichols was re-signed, he spoke with the media, as most players do.
Around the 1:20 mark, a reporter asks McNichols what his expectations are with new offensive coordinator David Blough taking over the offense.
"I expect him to be explosive," McNichols replied. "Run the ball, pass the ball, play action ... Be unique, creative. He's a great mind. He didn't get this job for no reason, and for him to be so young and talented, and everybody wanted him. So we're lucky to have him, and I'm just so excited to see his creativity, and also the other coaches on the staff as well. They've got creative minds, and we have former offensive coordinators and head coaches that are going to put their input in, and they're gonna have this offense rocking this year."
As a respected veteran in this league, McNichols' opinion carries weight. Blough has only been coaching for a couple of years, but he's performed well enough that the Commanders felt he could handle a much larger role than he had played before. A former NFL quarterback, Blough knows exactly what it takes to run an offense. After spending four years at Purdue and four seasons in the NFL, Blough retired and joined the coaching ranks.
The Commanders still have roster needs to address, but knowing that your most veteran running back, who's played with Blough on the staff for two seasons, believes in the guy they've hired should have the organization and fanbase looking forward to 2026.
