The Boston Celtics have a tougher task in the New York Knicks for their Eastern Conference Semifinals, than they faced with the Orlando Magic in the opening round of this year's playoffs. Boston was able to take Orlando's best shot and finish their series in five games, meanwhile the Knicks stole the first game of the Semifinals on the road at TD Garden.
In a game where the Celtics missed 45 3-point attempts, while shooting a total of 65 from long range, the defense felt different between Orlando and New York especially when shooting from deep. Celtics star Jaylen Brown, who went 1-10 from 3-point range, said he felt as if the Knicks were daring the Celtics to shoot the 3s, while Orlando did everything they could on defense to take the 3-point shot away.
"Orlando kind of took the 3-point line away," Brown said to the media after the Game 1 loss. "It felt like tonight they (Knicks) were daring us to shoot, they wanted us to shoot those shots and we didn't make them tonight. I felt like we had a ton of good looks, some maybe we forced up and settled for sure, we'll look at those and be better at those. That's an abnormal game in terms of shooting the basketball. All our guys we trust, we've got great shooters on this team. We'll look at the film as a team and then we'll approach it that way and move forward."
A reoccurring theme out of the Celtics' locker room following the game was that they were happy with the looks they got offensively for the most part, but also admitted there was probably a bit that were forced. If the team can identify where they forced shots they didn't have to, and how they can turnaround their shooting efficiency from deep, they should have a much different result in Game 2 on Wednesday night.
