With the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade saga (likely?) finally nearing a conclusion over the next couple of days, one man is kind of twisting in the wind over his own future. That man is Boston Celtics star forward Jaylen Brown, who the Celtics will likely trade away if they can acquire Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks. This, after a spicy offseason in which Brown claimed the 2025-2026 season was his favorite as an NBA player, even though it didn't include teammate Jayson Tatum for most of it, and even though he won NBA Finals MVP in 2024.
As trade rumors began reigniting on Monday, Brown took to his Twitch stream to address his place in the Celtics and Giannis conversation. The perennial All-NBA player claimed that all of his critics and doubters, particularly those who actually want to see him traded out of Boston, are turning him into a "monster."
Well, that's probably not a quote from a guy who's confident he will be a member of the Celtics moving forward!
While I can understand Brown's seeming frustration with his situation, it's hard not to argue that he didn't do this to himself. He didn't have to distance himself somewhat from the Celtics and make comments that he surely knew would be detrimental to team chemistry. He didn't have to express displeasure at the Celtics' general direction and his playing second fiddle to Tatum. He could've kept his nose to the ground. Perhaps, then, the Celtics wouldn't be so seemingly eager to deal him away.
Alas, Brown's days in Boston appear numbered. For the most part, he really only has himself to blame.

Jaylen Brown just now on his Twitch stream as the Celtics are in active trade negotiations for Giannis Antetokounmpo:
