LSU baseball suffered another tough loss on Friday. This time, it fell to No. 10 Texas A&M 10-4 on Friday in Baton Rouge. LSU would go on to lose Saturday again, officially dropping the series.

Right-handed pitcher Casan Evans started on the bump against the Aggies and pitched well in the early goings in Game 1. Things unraveled in the fifth inning and he suffered his second loss of the year but head coach Jay Johnson remains encouraged by the sophomore.

"I thought the stuff was good," Johnson said. "We have guys that have thrown way less innings whose stuff is down. His is not, because he does the right thing. He'll do the right thing tomorrow, leading up to next week's performance. I saw 95 or 96 in the first inning."

Evans held the Aggies to one run over the first four innings. Then they jumped on his pitches in the fifth and sixth, scoring six runs on one walk and five hits, including a home run. Every run in the fifth inning scored with two outs.

While he thinks Evans may want a few of those pitches back, Johnson pointed to the need for better defense. LSU continues to get strong outings from its weekend starters, but the defense behind them needs to improve.

"The defense has to help him," Johnson said. "Those nine pitches at the end of an outing matter and if you save him in the first inning, maybe he's got a little more in the tank, but that's on us to fix the defense."
