Another hard hit resulted in another trip to the blue medical tent for New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart.

And the second-year quarterback is beginning to wonder why it keeps happening.

Dart was evaluated for a concussion after absorbing a big hit during Saturday’s 13-10 preseason loss to the Minnesota Vikings. He was cleared early in the second quarter and later said he simply had the wind knocked out of him.

The evaluation continued a familiar pattern for Dart, who was checked for a concussion five times during his rookie season. He was diagnosed with one concussion last year, an injury that ultimately forced him to miss two games.

“As far as the blue tent, I really respect the rules and the thought behind NFL has of keeping players healthy and reviewing things,” Dart said. “But at the same time, I’m still puzzled by it just feeling like every time that I get hit, I find my way in there.”

The NFL’s concussion protocols are designed to identify potential head injuries quickly, particularly following significant contact. Given Dart’s history, his hits could continue to receive additional attention from medical personnel.

Dart cleared, but Giants quarterback still has questions about latest evaluation

Giants right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor believes the scrutiny surrounding Dart is intensified by the quarterback’s profile and playing in the New York market.

“If a normal QB takes that hit, I’m sure not much is going to be said about it,” Eluemunor said. “But, you know, when we play in New York and it’s Jaxson Dart, I’m assuming people are going to make it bigger than it actually is.”

Dart’s willingness to extend plays and absorb contact has been part of his game, but protecting himself remains important as he enters his second NFL season.

For now, the Giants received the most important news Saturday: Dart was cleared.

But after another medical evaluation, the quarterback acknowledged he is still trying to understand why seemingly every significant hit sends him back to the tent.
