According to the Sun-Sentinel Beat writer blog he might be. Source: http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_basketball_heat/2008/06/the-perspective.html

Standard disclaimers apply (I have no idea how reliable this is, nor do I believe it to be gospel) but if this is actually true and Posey is on the market, the Suns HAVE to make a run at him. Unfortunately I don't think Phoenix has what it takes for a S&T with Boston and I'd wager that Posey is looking for more than the MLE so this could all be a pipe dream anyhow.

I would love to have this guy. Exactly what the Suns need. A guy who can shoot the 3 and play defense.

I don't think Posey gets more than the MLE.

IMHO, he's out of the Suns price range. According to Patricia's, he had a two year contract for $7 million signed last summer. If he's a free agent, that means he has an opt out and so is looking for more; probably an MLE. That's not unreasonable, but when everything is double due to the LT, I'd be skeptical the Suns would spend that kind of money for a backup who is not a PG.

Not only Posey, James Jones is also holding player option for his final year which is just a little more than 3M. There r quite a few good SFs in MLE range this summer.

I have said this in other thread: Ship out Boris Diaw is a key for the offseason. Get a high quality SF back in the deal, or simply reduce payroll (like Kurt Thomas case), so we could use MLE to sign an FA.

I don't think JJ is half the player that Posey is. Granted he's younger (not by much) and could very well develop into a similar type of player but IMO he doesn't have the some mental makeup for that to happen.

Well, if we r willing to offer full MLE, I think we have a very good chance to grab Posey, he played alongside Shaq in 2006 Heat championship team, they 2 have a good relationship.

But again, unless Kerr could find a taker for Diaw and successfully get rid of his 9M, or at least a part of it, I see little hope that Sarvar would open his pocket for Posey.

Posey would be perfect. I always liked his game. He is a role player that steps up and isn't timid. He can be a defensive enforcer and intimidator, he can drill the three, and he has rings with boston(giving it to them) and the heat. what we lacked this season was reliable 3pt shbooters that were wiling to play a role that were large bodies. he is perfect. He has also played with shaq before as well.

For that price, you have to think POINT GUARD.

To be honest, we can't spend MLE on a backup PG unless we get rid of Barbosa first. Occupying 6M in our payroll, Barbosa has never done anything good as PG, and too often a huge defensive liability at SG.

Consider Hill's age and injury concern, and Bell's inconsistency in playoff. I think we need 2 additional wing players, one through draft, either Donte Green or Brandon Rush, and another veteran by MLE. Posey is definitely priority, or I think James Jones or Pietrus r good enough for us, and they might come in a little cheaper.

Assuming the Suns draft a wing, this would give them Hill, Bell, Diaw, Rush, GG, Tucker, and Strawberry as wings. Posey is better than GG, but I'm not sure he's enough better.
