Another year passes. Another offseason is endured, and for Philadelphia Eagles fans, it's seemingly more of the same. Jalen Hurts has spent much of his NFL career proving people wrong, and that has carried over into the 2026 NFL season. Jeremy Fowler's recently conducted survey of NFL executives, coaches, and scouts ranked the league's top quarterbacks, and while Hurts didn't crack the top 10, he did earn honorable mention. Meanwhile, rival Dak Prescott (Dallas Cowboys) finished sixth.

The recognition reflects a familiar reality. League evaluators continue to debate exactly where he belongs among the NFL's elite, even as the wins keep coming and his resume keeps growing. One AFC offensive coach summarized that sentiment in simple terms.

"I know it has been up-and-down, but I'm still betting on the Super Bowl credentials, the intangibles and the toughness."

Hurts has never been the quarterback who wins every argument with gaudy passing statistics alone. His value has always extended beyond the box score.

Jalen Hurts continues earning respect differently

Leadership, poise, resilience, and an ability to deliver in the biggest moments have become defining characteristics of his career. Those traits helped guide Philadelphia to multiple Super Bowl appearances and established Hurts as one of the league's most accomplished quarterbacks despite constant scrutiny.

Even his supporters acknowledge there have been ups and downs. Throughout his career, Hurts has navigated coaching changes, evolving offensive systems, and shifting expectations, yet the Eagles have consistently remained among the NFC's contenders with him under center.

Winning still defines his legacy. Individual rankings will always generate debate, particularly at the NFL's most important position, so it's for that reason that Prescott being ranked higher births conversations about touchdown passes, individual throws, and overall passing/offensive rankings. There's a debate about how likely (or unlikely) they are to concern themselves with this sort of thing. Sure, they enjoy winning. It can also be argued that they want to win a certain way.

They'll be far more interested in whether Hurts continues doing what he's done throughout much of his career: leading Philadelphia into meaningful games late in the season. Rankings may fluctuate from year to year, but the qualities highlighted yet again - his toughness, leadership, and championship pedigree -remain the foundation of the Eagles' confidence in their franchise quarterback.

Now, backed by a new offensive coordinator who is expected to introduce a more creative attack, another deep postseason run may be coming. If that's added to his resume in 2026 and Hurts' performance is tied to it, don't be surprised if the conversation surrounding his place among the NFL's best quarterbacks sounds much different next summer.
