Jalen Brunson and Jayson Tatum went toe-to-toe in what turned out to be an epic individual battle in Monday's Game 4 matchup between the New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics.
Brunson went off for 39 points on 14-of-25 shooting, five rebounds, 12 assists and four triples. Tatum, on the other hand, dropped a game-high 42 points on 16-of-28 from the field, eight boards, four dimes, four steals, two blocks and seven three-pointers.
Despite Tatum's heroics, however, it was still Brunson and the Knicks who escaped with a hard-fought 121-113 victory to secure a commanding 3-1 advantage in this second-round NBA playoffs series.

The bad news for the Celtics is that Tatum suffered what appears to be a major injury in the loss. The six-time All-Star had to be wheelchaired to the locker room after sustaining a non-contact injury.
In a genuine act of sportsmanship, Brunson opened his post-game press conference with a message for the injured Celtics superstar.
"Prayers out to JT, man," Brunson said. "I just wanted to say that first and foremost. Thoughts and prayers with him. Just praying for the best."
The Knicks would have a major advantage if Tatum is unable to suit up in Game 5 on Wednesday, but Brunson has made it clear that he wishes nothing but the best for his opponent amid this troubling crisis.
The Celtics have not provided the details of Tatum's status except that he will undergo an MRI on Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury. Much like the entire Celtics fanbase, Brunson is also hoping that the injury is not as bad as initially anticipated.
