JOPLIN, MO. — The Joplin Jailbirds picked up a pair of wins over the Carroll Merchants on Tuesday night, completing the doubleheader sweep following a lengthy road stand.
Tuesday’s doubleheader marked the first game in Joe Becker Stadium since July 7 following a nine-game stretch on the road. Joplin picked up the win 11-3 in Game 1 thanks to some late-game offense and secured the sweep with a 3-1 win in Game 2.
Jordan Tucker led the way offensively for the Jailbirds in Game 1, going 2-4 at the plate with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI.
Game 2 was more of a pitcher’s duel, and Pitt State athlete Cross Dowd put up a stellar performance featuring 7 strikeouts and just 1 ER in 5.0 innings pitched.
Joplin will return home once again on Thursday, July 23 with the regular season set to conclude July 25.
Joplin has a playoff spot locked up, with the MINK League postseason set to begin July 27.
