Jahmyr Gibbs has sad but perfect response to Lions trading David Montgomery originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Detroit Lions' Sonic and Knuckles era is over.
The ending came on Monday, when the Lions traded running back David Montgomery to the Houston Texans.
The deal saw the Lions give up Montgomery for a pair of draft picks, a fourth-rounder and a seventh-rounder, and offensive lineman Juice Scruggs, which is a nice haul for Detroit.
Detroit sending Montgomery packing wasn't surprising, as the veteran rusher was not happy with his decreased role last season, and general manager Brad Holmes admitted Montgomery might be moving on this offseason.
Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs were arguably the best one-two punch at running back for the past three seasons, and the pair was very close.
So, it comes as no surprise that Gibbs was sad to see his friend and backfield mate go. He did, however, make the perfect social media post to express his sorrow.

Known for his electric speed, Gibbs was Sonic and Montgomery, who is a power runner, was Knuckles, so the backfield nickname was perfect.
Now, the Lions will be looking for a new Knuckles.
With Montgomery gone, the Lions have Gibbs, Sione Vaki and Jabari Small (futures contract) under contract.
That is obviously not going to cut it, so the Lions will have to add multiple backs, and preferably at least one veteran who can take some of the pressure and load off Gibbs, who is set to land himself a monster payday at some point in the near future.
