Jacksonville Jaguars general manager James Gladstone has repeatedly said the team won't hesitate if an opportunity presents itself, and perhaps one could in the near future.
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown's name has been in trade rumors since the midst of the 2025 season, picking up as the offseason has rolled on. It is widely expected within league circles that Brown will be traded at some point after June 1.
If traded after that date, the Eagles can lessen the blow to their salary cap, going from a net loss of $20 million if Brown is traded before June 1, to a net gain of $7 million post June 1. Trading Brown after June 1 allows the Eagles to split Brown's $40 million salary cap charge between this year and next.

Currently, Jacksonville has around $10,121,760 in cap space. Trading for Brown would take just $7 million from the fund, giving the team around $3 million to play with afterward. However, many teams prefer to enter the season with more in order to make potential moves at the trade deadline.
Brown's contract runs through the 2029 season after he signed his three-year, $96 million extension in 2024.
Jacksonville has circulated around NFL media circles recently as a dark horse team to trade for Brown. The league has widely believed that the New England Patriots are the most-likely suitor for Brown's services, however.
Some even went so far as to say it was just a "matter of time" before Brown ended up in New England.
However, in recent days, multiple NFL insiders, including Jason La Canfora and James Palmer, speculated that Jacksonville could be a "sleeper" fit for the Eagles' star receiver.
Much of the speculation has centered on the team's will-they, won't-they rumor regarding the team's willingness to trade receiver Brian Thomas Jr.
However, Gladstone has repeatedly said that the team has no interest in trading the rising third-year wideout. Jaguars head coach Liam Coen has also said multiple times that Thomas is important to the team's offense. Thomas offers something no other receiver on Jacksonville's roster can: elite speed.
In addition to the near-baseless Thomas trade rumors, speculation centered on receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter's playtime split on offense and defense has added to fuel to the fire. Hunter is slated for an uptick in playtime at corner after the team allowed starter Greg Newsome II to walk in free agency.
Still, Jacksonville has remained steady in their decision to play Hunter on both sides of the ball moving forward.
Trading for Brown, who will be 29 when the season begins, wouldn't make sense for the Jaguars.
The team is slated to return their top three receivers in Thomas, Jakobi Meyers and Parker Washington. Meyers earned a three-year, $60 million contract extension from the team after being acquired via trade at last year's deadline.
Washington is entering his final season after a breakout campaign in 2025. Last year, Washington caught 58 passes for 847 yards and five touchdowns, leading the team in all three categories for a wide receiver.
Coen's offense is predicated on spreading the ball around. Last year, the team had four pass catchers with at least 42 catches, including Meyers who played in just nine games with the team. Running back Travis Etienne added 36 catches, while Hunter managed 28 before being sidelined with a knee injury.
Coen has, on multiple occasions, praised the team's selflessness, noting that three receivers (Washington, Thomas and Meyers) finished with 700-or-more yards last year. Meyers had 352 yards with the Las Vegas Raiders before being traded to Jacksonville, adding 483 yards to his total.
Brown's primary complaint in Philadelphia has centered around how the team has utilized the veteran star receiver. On multiple occasions, despite the outcome of the game, Brown has taken to social media to cryptically signal his displeasure.
That type of behavior alone wouldn't mesh with Jacksonville's culture and ecosystem.
