After signing his three-year contract extension to remain with the Jacksonville Jaguars through the 2029 season, tight end Brenton Strange met with the local media.
According to reports, this deal comes with a base of $36 million and includes up to $12 million in incentives that can be earned and $25 million in guarantees.
It's a big payday for Strange, but also a part of this decision was that he wanted to remain in Jacksonville.
"I feel like Duval is home to me," Strange said. "I take a lot of pride in going out there... playing good for this city and playing good for this organization. This is where I wanted to be, I'm happy here, and I'm just excited we got the deal done."
And part of what makes Jacksonville such a special place for Strange are those within the building that he works with on a daily basis.
"I would say it's the people that we have in this building," Strange added. "And that was another reason why I wanted to be here. And that's not only the players, but that's just the staff. You know, that's all the people in this building. We have one common goal and whatever we need to do to win, that's that. So it's a special building, man. And that's what you need. You need special people around. You need the people who are driven and determined to want to accomplish winning. And I'm happy I'm here."
Strange is a vital member of this offense. Beyond his reliability in the passing game, his do-it-all presence impacts the game in a variety of ways.
Strange is a very capable blocker and can be moved around the formation. This well-rounded skill set adds a level of unpredictability to the offense because he can wear so many hats.
That, in turn, not only opens up opportunities for Strange to exploit, but it also creates opportunities for his teammates as well.
As good as Strange has been for the Jaguars, the addition of rookie Nate Boerkircher could benefit him greatly by allowing Coen to utilize Strange in more ways and by also taking some of the tight end workload off his plate.
When Strange played last season, the Jaguars were 11-1 in those games.
Strange was a second-round pick by Jacksonville in the 2023 NFL draft out of Penn State.
