The Jacksonville Jaguars have reportedly signed tight end Brenton Strange to a contract extension. So let's grade the deal.
According to Tom Pelissero, Strange is signing a three-year extension worth up to $48 million and includes $25 million guaranteed.
Ari Meirov later reported that Strange's deal has a base value of $36 million with the other $12 million tied to incentives. Strange is now under contract through the 2029 season.
At $12 million per year, not including incentives, Strange is now the 12th-highest-paid tight end in football by average annual value. The $25 million guaranteed is the 10th-most among tight ends.
As we detailed in our initial article, Strange does a lot for this offense. While he's reliable in the passing game, the stat sheet often doesn't illustrate his full impact either.
Strange's ability to be moved around the formation and contribute in the run game further opens up the playbook for Liam Coen because of all the roles he can fill. This then adds a level of unpredictability to the offense.
That multi-faceted impact at a contract value that ranks closer to the middle of the NFL tight end market than it does the top is a very good value for the Jaguars.
