One of the biggest strengths of the Jacksonville Jaguars this season should be their wide receivers.
The group has three different guys who could all reasonably end up as the team's leading receiver in 2026. That's not even counting Travis Hunter, who may be the Jags' most talented WR, but will be focusing on playing cornerback this year.
Brian Thomas Jr. looked to be one of the NFL's best WRs as a rookie, but a terrible sophomore season has caused his stock to drop dramatically. BTJ was recently named the Jaguar who has the "most on the line" for the upcoming season.
Parker Washington had a breakout campaign in 2025. He took advantage of Thomas' struggles and Hunter's season-ending injury and exploded onto the scene with the increased opportunities.
Jakobi Meyers came over in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders and instantly became one of Trevor Lawrence's most trusted and consistent options.
The competition between the trio will be one of the team's most closely followed during camp. In fact, Ben Solak of ESPN believes it is one of the most intriguing in the entire NFL and has highlighted the Jaguars' WR battle in his article on the league's top storylines to watch during training camps.
Many believe that BTJ is the team's most important receiver and that Washington is the up-and-comer who could become a star. However, Solak provides an interesting viewpoint, saying that Meyers is the one whom the current regime has invested the most in.
"The Jaguars' second-year front office and coaching staff have invested most in Meyers, for whom they traded fourth- and sixth-round picks at the deadline last season. Meyers was extended midseason at a solid three-year, $60 million figure. This is notable because Thomas was drafted by the old brass, and Washington has not been extended even as he approaches the final year of his contract."
Solak believes Meyers' role with the team is the most secure and also questions whether Washington will lose targets, with the expectation being that the Jaguars will use more tight-end-heavy sets in 2026.
"So Meyers' role is the most secure, even if he doesn't end up the leading target-getter. Down the stretch last season that player was Washington, who has the easy separation and middle-of-the-field toughness that seem to pair well with quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Washington is more of a traditional slot option, so he could lose snaps to the Jaguars' incoming commitment to multi-tight-end sets, as the drafting of tight end Nate Boerkircher in Round 2 seems to indicate."
No matter how the battle turns out, all three will likely see their fair share of action. Solak believes the battle isn't necessarily for playing time, but rather for each one's spot on the food chain. He thinks Thomas will come out on top.
"This is less a battle for a starting job and more a battle for positioning in the target hierarchy, but Thomas is the one to watch in training camp. If he looks healed from whatever odd affliction torpedoed his game last season, he's by far the most dynamic playmaker of the three primary options."
I agree that BTJ is the most dynamic of the trio and has the highest ceiling. He will most likely be given every opportunity to reclaim his spot as the Jags' WR1, and has looked the part so far during OTAs and minicamp.
With Thomas, Meyers, and Washington (and occasionally Hunter), Jacksonville has one of the deepest and most talented wide receiver rooms in the league. The competition between them in camp should be extremely entertaining.
