Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett reported for mandatory minicamp on Monday. However, nothing has changed with his stance on his contract. According to ESPN's Josh Weinfuss, Brissett still wants his contract redone.
Brissett sat out voluntary OTAs and other offseason workouts seeking a new deal. He is scheduled to make $4.9 million in salary, with $1.5 million in guarantees, and up to $510,000 in per-game roster bonuses. It is the second year of his two-year contract, which he signed last year to be the Cardinals' backup quarterback.
However, he ended up starting 12 games after Kyler Murray injured his foot and didn't return for the rest of the season. He set career highs with 3,366 passing yards and 23 touchdown passes, and tight end Trey McBride and receiver Michael Wilson had career seasons with Brissett throwing them the ball.
Now, Brissett is expected to be the Cardinals' QB1 and he wants to be paid as such. He and the team are reportedly significantly apart in contract talks. All expected veteran starting quarterbacks not on cost-controlled rookie contracts will make at least $19.5 million in 2026. Brissett's contract doesn't match that.
Brissett is with the team, but nothing is settled yet. This contract saga isn't anywhere near done until there is some finality — either a reworked contract or something happening with Brissett on the roster.
