FARGO, N.D. (SDSU) — The South Dakota State softball team closed out its 2026 regular season ahead of The Summit League Softball Championship on Saturday with its finale at North Dakota State. The Jackrabbits dropped a 15-2 decision in five innings to the Bison as they turn their sights to postseason play.

NDSU scored 13 first-inning runs on its way to a commanding victory. The Bison tallied 13 hits and 12 of their runs came as earned runs against the SDSU pitching staff.

South Dakota State produced just one hit heading into the fifth inning. Alli Boyle, Emma Vike and Abby Gentry each recorded singles in the frame before a two-run double by Akayla Barnard made up the Jackrabbits’ run production on the day. The Jackrabbits have four pitchers make appearances with Bella MacMahon throwing a team-high 2 2/3 innings of relief. She allowed two hits, but no runs while striking out two in her showing.

SDSU now prepares for its upcoming appearance in The Summit League tournament. The Jackrabbits will be the No. 6 seed and face NDSU again as the Bison head into postseason play as the third seed. The two sides will square off at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
