The Lions and Jack Campbell agreed to a 4-year extension this offseason. There are many reasons why this extension made a lot of sense to the Lions including youth, reliability, and health.

Here is the excerpt from my 2026 Jack Campbell Medical Report:

Jack Campbell, LB (26yo entering 2026 season)

Contract extension through 2030 season: 4-years, $81M with $51.5M guaranteed

Medical concern level: 1/10

  • 2025: 17/17 games. Lip laceration, did not miss any time.
  • 2024: 18/18 games. After the season, he had hip surgery.
  • 2023: 20/20 games

The lip laceration, while gruesome, was repaired well and healed nicely. No concerns with it at all.

-Crosses lip vermilion border making for tricky repair.

The unspecified hip surgery is something to monitor as his career unfolds. If there was any cartilage damage, that could be something that causes problems down the line. His excellent All-Pro season after the surgery is very reassuring.

Campbell will play the final year of the extension at 30-years-old, so the age risk is minimal.

Overall, Campbell is exactly the kind of player the Lions want to retain - a gritty, tough player who is extremely reliable.
