Former Washington Huskies star wide receiver Ja'Lynn Polk has had a rough first two years in the NFL.
After being selected in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft by the New England Patriots, Polk arrived with big expectations, but never really seemed to get going as he was hindered by injuries and a seemingly sour relationship with former coach Jerod Mayo. Over 15 games (all of which came in his rookie year) with the Patriots, he pulled in just 12 catches for 87 yards and 2 touchdowns.
When a shoulder injury in the preseason derailed his second year, New England chose to move on and traded him to the New Orleans Saints. Now with a chance to play at the Caesar's Superdome, where he recorded 5 catches for 122 yards and a score in UW's Sugar Bowl win over Texas, he's looking for a fresh start.
For Polk, the fact that New Orleans chose to pull the trigger and make a deal for him, even while injured, meant a lot.
"It means a lot, it speaks volumes for sure," Polk told members of the media after a practice. "I've got to do my part and come here and show them the right reason why they brought me over here."
In a room headlined by Chris Olave and a top ten pick in April's draft, Jordyn Tyson, who are projected to be quarterback Tyler Shough's top options, Polk will have to earn every rep he gets, but during his days on Montlake, he proved himself thanks to a strong work ethic.
"The most important thing I'm thinking about is finding my opportunities and going out there and doing what they ask me to do," Polk added. "I'm versatile, so I'm going out there and making plays and doing everything that I can."
