While there aren't many updates for the Denver Broncos this time of year, fans had plenty to talk about earlier this week.
Head coach Sean Payton admitted that he floated around an idea of hiring then-New England Patriots HC Bill Belichick so that he could attain the title of most wins by a head coach in NFL history while with the Broncos.
This would have involved Peyton stepping down as HC and becoming the assistant coach, while Belichick breaks the record, then hypothetically steps down, with Peyton resuming his original position.
It's quite an interesting idea that obviously never came to fruition, but even more interesting that Peyton brought this idea up with the front office himself.
Moving on to the wide receiver room battle, newly acquired Jaylen Waddle and Courtland Sutton are battling it out for the No. 1 receiver in the organization, although it currently appears to be a 1a and 1b situation. Regardless, Randy breaks down the WR room's power dynamic.
Fortunately, Sutton admits that there is no selfishness within the locker room and every member of the team is putting their pride aside for the greater good of the team, so it appears that the debate over the No. 1 receiver is not affecting anyone on the roster.
The conversation eventually lands on how this is a positive for the Broncos, which boils down to having two elite WRs, each capable of having 1,000-yard seasons.
While discussing Sutton, Randy notes that he is under contract through the 2027 season and despite being the longest-tenured Bronco, he believes that this is the last year that Sutton is with Denver. When his contract expires, Sutton will be 32 years old and owed $22.4 million for 2027-2028. Randy compares it to ex-Philadelphia Eagles star A.J. Brown, who is now with the Patriots. All this is to say that Broncos fans may want to enjoy the offensive talent on the field with Sutton and Waddle while it lasts.
Mike leads the next topic of discussion by mentioning Denver's talented special teams unit, specifically highlighting punter Jeremy Crawshaw.
Then, our trio mentions the running back room and which players are leading the charge in the backfield.
