The New England Patriots’ matchup against the Chicago Bears in Week 7 of the 2026 NFL season is perhaps the most pivotal matchup of the year for the Mike Vrabel-led ball club.

The Bears game comes four weeks before New England’s Week 11 bye. The Patriots will start the season with four games that have the potential to go either way. The Seattle Seahawks have an edge over the Patriots at home in Week 1, having defeated New England in the Super Bowl last season. The Buffalo Bills also have an edge over New England in Week 4.

However, the Patriots will also play very winnable games against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Jacksonville Jaguars from Weeks 3-4 before facing two easy matchups at home against the Las Vegas Raiders and the New York Jets from Weeks 5-6, prior to their meeting against the Bears.

New England has a strong likelihood of walking away from that six-game stretch above .500. The Patriots will have the chance to extend an expected two-game winning streak at the least, with a win over the Bears, which will spill over into another favorable matchup against the Miami Dolphins in Week 8.

Momentum will be key for New England at that juncture of the season, and a win over Chicago will provide them with exactly that, to take care of business against Miami and again when they host the Green Bay Packers at home in Week 9.

Just like that, a five-game winning streak could take shape, keeping the snowball rolling against the Detroit Lions in Munich after the Packers game. The Lions are the stronger team on paper and have one of the easiest strength of schedule matchups next season, which will propel them into their matchup against the Patriots.

Nevertheless, a 7-3 record or better for New England heading into the bye week will be a great situation for the team. A loss to the Bears in Week 7 runs the risk of disrupting the Patriots’ momentum prior to their two tests against playoff contenders before their bye week.

If the pendulum swings in New England’s favor with a 7-3 record or better coming out of the bye week, the Patriots will only need to win three favorable games against the Minnesota Vikings, Jets and Dolphins down the back half of the year to feel good about making the playoffs with a potential double-digit win total.
