Anthony Edwards is coming off a career season where he averaged 28.8 points, five rebounds, and 3.7 assists in 61 games. He shot 48% from the field and 39% from three on 8.4 attempts.
He was named to his fourth All-Star Game, winning MVP at the event, and finished third in Clutch Player of the Year voting. Injuries cost him a spot on the All-NBA team, where he likely would've made the second team.
In the playoffs, he averaged 21.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.7 assists while shooting 42% from the field and 31% from three. He was hampered by a knee injury in the second round against the San Antonio Spurs after helping the Timberwolves upset the Denver Nuggets in the first round.
Edwards won't turn 25 until the first week of August and has already established himself as one of the premier players in the game, doing it with style as his athleticism is in the top 5% of the league.
The Ringer released its updated Top 100 players in the league ranking, placing Edwards sixth on the list.
He is behind reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder, two-way phenom Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs, three-time MVP Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets, offensive juggernaut Luka Doncic of the Los Angeles Lakers, and Finals MVP Jalen Brunson of the New York Knicks.
Edwards is ahead of Giannis Antetokounmpo, who missed the majority of the season for the Milwaukee Bucks before he was traded to the Miami Heat this offseason and Kawhi Leonard, who played 65 games and put up career scoring numbers, averaging 27.9 points.
Edwards is right about where he should be. There isn't a great argument for him to be over Shai, Wemby, Jokic, Luka, or Brunson after their respective seasons and playoff runs. While Edwards was better than Jokic in the playoffs and Luka was injured for the entirety of the Lakers' playoff run, their regular season numbers trump what Edwards did.
There is an argument that Giannis should be placed above Edwards, but Giannis was likely knocked for missing the majority of the season. Giannis played in just 36 games, averaging 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists.
Given his injuries and inability to stay on the court this past season, Edwards has a good argument to be ranked above him, though it's doubtful there would be many complaints if Giannis was sixth.

Anthony Edwards' turnaround jumper might be the biggest swing skill in his game.
Watching Anthony Edwards hit turnaround jumpers makes me wonder if we're witnessing that evolution in real time. The scary part about isn't his dunking anymore, it's the fact that he's… https://t.co/nTrRzD6uvFpic.twitter.com/zysSPDMP0l
