KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • Sohail Tanveer won the first-ever IPL Purple Cap award.
  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Dwayne Bravo have won the Purple Cap award the most times.

How is Purple Cap award decided?

The Purple Cap is presented to the highest wicket-taker of a particular edition of the Indian Premier League. At the end of the season, including the playoffs, the bowler who took the most wickets is presented with the award, which is in the shape of a cap and is Purple in colour.

If two bowlers are tied in total wickets taken, then the bowler with the lowest economy rate would win the award.
