NEW DELHI: Royal Challengers Bengaluru pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has climbed to the top of the IPL 2026 Purple Cap standings after RCB’s dominant win over Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 on Tuesday.

The experienced fast bowler now sits level with Kagiso Rabada on 26 wickets, but edges ahead due to a superior economy rate and average. Bhuvneshwar has been one of RCB’s most reliable performers this season, striking every 13.61 balls while maintaining an impressive economy of 8.00.

Rabada’s chances of reclaiming the Purple Cap ended with Gujarat Titans’ defeat, as GT were knocked out of direct qualification contention. He finishes the season with 26 wickets from 15 matches at an economy of 9.48.

The race, however, is still not over.

Jofra Archer remains the closest active challenger with 21 wickets for Rajasthan Royals heading into the Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad. If RR qualify for the final and Archer produces a big performance across the remaining games, he could still threaten Bhuvneshwar’s lead.

Further behind are Anshul Kamboj of Chennai Super Kings with 21 wickets and Rashid Khan with 19 wickets, though Rashid’s campaign could extend only if Gujarat somehow survive through Qualifier 2.

For Bhuvneshwar, the equation is now simple heading into the IPL 2026 final. One or two wickets could be enough to seal the Purple Cap outright, depending on how Archer performs in the playoffs. Another strong outing in the summit clash would not only strengthen RCB’s title hopes but could also help the veteran pacer finish as the season’s leading wicket-taker.
