There has rarely been a more desperate Friday night in Delhi. The Capitals have had a season that has promised much but delivered little and they now find themselves staring down the barrel with just four games left to salvage something meaningful.
Kolkata, meanwhile, have had their own struggles, but three wins on the bounce have breathed life back into a side that had looked destined for an early exit from the playoffs race.
Both teams' chances are hanging by a thread in the playoffs race. For Delhi, the equation is very simple. Capitals need to win all four of their remaining games to give themselves a realistic chance of reaching the playoffs. Even then, they will need results elsewhere to fall in their favour. Should they slip up even once, their only hope would be to win three of the four remaining games and pray that a host of other results go their way. Either way, there is very little margin for error left in their campaign.
For Kolkata, the mathematics have been even more unforgiving, with the side needing all five of their remaining fixtures to fall their way
Delhi Capitals will likely serve up a flat pitch, especially after seeing what transpired against Chennai Super Kings. And they have added intent of neutralising the threat posed by Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine.
On a batting belter, Delhi's bowling arsenal looks the stronger of the two sides, and with both teams having had similarly inconsistent batting units, that could prove decisive.
Delhi Capitals have the edge here, though KKR will have plenty to say about that. Either way, this one has all the making of a cracking contest.

For most of the season, Arun Jaitley Stadium has been a belter and that has been a ground where batters have thrived and big scores have flowed freely. But the DC vs CSK game changed the narrative somewhat, with the surface playing uncharacteristically slow. Now, the pitch itself could be the defining factor on the night.
