Last month, Ben McCollum won a big recruiting battle when he landed 2027 four-star forward Keller Daugherty.
Iowa got in on him early, beating out Oklahoma, Colorado State, and Drake for his talents. Daugherty was a three-star when he committed to the Hawkeyes, but recently became a four-star prospect, according to 247Sports. The 6-foot-10 forward is the 107th-best prospect in the class, and the first 2027 commit for McCollum.
Daugherty has been busy on the circuits this summer as he prepares for his senior year. On Thursday, he played in the RL Hoops Circuit. In that game, he showed off the skill set that has national recruiting sites praising the Hawkeyes for landing his commitment.
Daugherty finished the game with 30 points, ten rebounds, four assists, and three blocks. He did it all on both sides of the court, with his strong defense leading to easy buckets in transition.
The RL Hoops Circuit is one of the best independent grassroots basketball leagues in the country. Some of the nation's top high school prospects play in it every year. Daugherty was competing against the best of the best and still put on a show.
The Hawkeyes are building something special under McCollum, and getting Daugherty to commit is the latest win for the program. After an Elite Eight run last season, Iowa is looking to prove it wasn't a fluke. Guys like Daugherty entering the program will help to ensure deep postseason runs become the norm in Iowa City.
