Easy come, easy go, as one 2025 addition to the Pittsburgh Steelers' defense has been tabbed as a potential trade candidate by insider Mark Kaboly.
According to Kaboly, the Steelers may look to trade cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. for a late-round draft pick if third-round rookie Daylen Everette takes the right steps forward during training camp.
“You look at Samuel, depends on what Everette does in training camp,” Kaboly said via 93.7 The Fan. “He could be a guy that you can flip for a pick late in August, last cutdown day.”
Kaboly's comments were also echoed by Sports Illustrated's Jack Markowski, who believes Samuel is the top trade candidate on Pittsburgh's roster.
Samuel underwent spinal fusion surgery in April 2025 and was cleared to play football a few months later in November. He joined the Steelers' practice squad and was signed to the active roster on December 2.
While some view him as Pittsburgh's top backup cornerback, a strong performance from Everette at training camp or this preseason could force the Steelers to rethink their long-term plans with Samuel in exchange for draft capital.
