If there was a game Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve would have liked to play in, Sunday's encounter against the Texas Rangers certainly would have been at the top of his list.
Starting for the Rangers was Nathan Eovaldi, one of Altuve's favorite opponents. In 58 at-bats against the 15-year veteran, Altuve went 19-for-58 with seven home runs.
But Altuve, who departed Saturday's game after sustaining an injury, sat out Sunday's 8-0 loss at Daikin Park. MLB.com reported that Altuve would be placed on the injured reserve list.
Altuve was the 15th injured member of the Astros' roster.

Altuve didn't bother to run to first base. With the Astros leading, 4-1, in the eighth inning Saturday, Altuve reached out to connect on a ground ball to Josh Jung, who initiated an uncontested double play. Instead of attempting to run out the play, the Astros' nine-time All-Star stopped and walked straight to the dugout, holding his side.
Medical results revealed Altuve suffered a Grade 2 left oblique strain, MLB.com reported. It was a familiar injury. He endured a similar affliction in 2023, costing him 20 games.
The Astros' medical tent is getting crowded, affecting every part of the roster. Along with Altuve, shortstop Jeremy Pena, third baseman Carlos Correa, outfielder Jake Myers, starting pitcher Hunter Brown and closer Josh Hader remain sidelined.
The Astros (19-29) on Sunday did not provide a timeline for Altuve's return. Through 42 games this season, Altuve slashed .245/.326/.380 with four homers and 12 RBI.
Eovaldi, who pitched seven shutout innings Sunday, surely didn't miss Altuve.
