Christian Rasmussen has agreed to a multiyear deal with Ed Carpenter Racing to continue driving the No. 21 Chevrolet, the team announced on Thursday.
Rasmussen, 25, is in his third season with ECR, where he started his IndyCar career. He sits 24th (out of 25 full-time drivers) in IndyCar's championship after finishing 13th last year and winning the first race of his career.
"I'm excited to extend my partnership with ECR for 2027 and beyond," Rasmussen said in a news release. "I've enjoyed my time with the team so far and believe in the future of ECR. We have undergone a lot of changes over the last couple years, and it has been a privilege to witness them firsthand, and to play a part in them. I'm confident that together we will continue to take ECR to its fullest potential."
The Danish driver began his IndyCar career with ECR after two years in Indy NXT (one with Andretti Global and one with HMD Motorsports). He was originally brought on as solely a road and street course driver in 2024, sans the Indianapolis 500, where the team fielded an extra entry.
In his first full IndyCar season in 2025, Rasmussen proved to be a worthy oval driver, with four of his five top 10 finishes coming on ovals, including his win at the Milwaukee Mile.
"Extending our partnership with Christian ensures that we continue building momentum with a driver who understands our team’s vision and culture," ECR owner Ted Gelov said. "The best is yet to come for Christian and ECR."
Rasmussen remains with ECR's lineup of two full-time drivers, as Alexander Rossi is in his second year piloting the No. 20 car. Team co-owner Ed Carpenter has continued driving in the Indy 500, where he's made 23 consecutive starts.
"We are very excited to finalize this extension with Christian," Carpenter said. "Maintaining continuity with our driver lineup is something we feel that is an important element for ECR to reach its full potential. We have watched Christian develop over the past two seasons and firmly believe that the future is bright for Christian and ECR.
"There are plenty of opportunities to make our mark in 2026 and we are confident that strong results are right in front of us. Christian really made a breakthrough last season at WWT Raceway before getting his first win at the Milwaukee Mile, so this weekend is a great opportunity to get back to victory lane."
With a sense of security with a new contract, Rasmussen will look to turn around his 2026 season and get back inside the top 22 of the standings to ensure ECR receives a Leaders Circle payout from IndyCar. Four of IndyCar's final 10 races are on ovals, including this weekend's Bommarito Automotive Group 500, where Rasmussen finished third last season.
