Ed Carpenter's career at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will continue in 2026. Carpenter will attempt to qualify for his 23rd straight Indy 500 this May, IndyCar announced Tuesday.

Carpenter, 44, hasn't competed full-time in the IndyCar Series since 2013, although he's been in every Indy 500 since 2004. The Paris, Ill., native is tied with George Snider for most Indy 500 starts without a win (22). Carpenter's best finish in the race came when he finished second to Will Power in 2018.

Carpenter is the owner of his own team, Ed Carpenter Racing (ECR), which will field full-time drivers Alexander Rossi (No. 20 car) and Christian Rasmussen (No. 21) in 2026. Carpenter finished 15th in the No. 33 car in 2025 after starting the race in 14th. Rasmussen and Rossi finished sixth and 28th, respectively.

ECR, which is heading into its 15th season in the IndyCar Series, has never had an Indy 500 champion. The team will again have three cars give it a shot for the race on May 24.

Despite not having won the race, Carpenter has become a staple in the paddock in May. That will continue for at least another year.
