Indiana men’s basketball landed its third transfer portal commitment of the day and the offseason overall when Markus Burton, a guard out of Notre Dame, announced his intention to join the Hoosiers for the 2026-27 season via social media on Thursday afternoon.

Burton has spent the last three seasons with Notre Dame after committing to the Fighting Irish out of Penn High School in Mishawaka as a member of the class of 2023, winning Indiana Mr. Basketball that same year. He was, however, limited to only ten games in 2025-26 after suffering a season ending ankle injury in December.
He’s never averaged under 17 points per game during his time in South Bend, leading the ACC in scoring as a sophomore in 2024-25 with 21.3 points per game. He averaged 18.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 48.9% from the field and 30.6% from 3-point range. If that 3-point number jumps out, he shot 37.5% on higher volume as a sophomore across a full season.
Burton gives Indiana an immediate starter at point guard and a way for Darian DeVries to let other portal recruits know who’ll be passing them the ball.
