The Tampa Bay Rays get back into the win column and even the series against their AL East rival. The team takes down the New York Yankees 3-1 after some electric pitching at Tropicana Field.

Here is what you need to know about today’s contest.

Ian Seymour was Outstanding

After continuous great outings on the mound, the former reliever turned starter hit a career high Tuesday night against a division rival, striking out 12 Yankees in just 5.1 innings of work.

The only issue he faced the entire game was a 3-run homer by Ben Rice in the 3rd inning. Other than that, he was everything the Rays needed to get out of their losing streak. He was the first pitcher in Rays history to punch out 12 or more batters in five innings since Tyler Glasnow in 2023.

The relief core who followed Seymour was just as impressive on the night, as 4 pitchers followed out of the bullpen. Closer Bryan Baker sealed the deal and picked up his 24th save in the process.

No Need to Worry About Yandy

After slumping over the past few games, Rays designated hitter Yandy Diaz was his old self again on Tuesday. Since he left the game a few weeks back with a shoulder injury, Diaz was 2 for 24 with 7 strikeouts, but that quickly turned around in the wins against the Yankees. The Rays All-Star went 2 for 4 with a homer and 2 RBIs in the contest.

His recent slide took quite a hit to his once league-leading batting average, but today's contest helped it bounce back to .319, now 3rd in MLB.

A Global Effort from the Bats

Both Hunter Feduccia and Victor Meda Jr. hit home runs in the contest, both players who have had somewhat quiet bats this season. Getting the bottom of the lineup to step up after a few games of slumping bats is exactly what Kevin Cash and the Rays needed to hopefully stay alive and win the series against the Bronx Bombers.

Richie Palacios also stepped up in a big way Tuesday as he had two hits, two runs, and picked up an RBI in the contest.

The Rays will be back in action on Wednesday and will look to take advantage of the series against the Yankees at Tropicana Field. Shane McClanahan (7-5, 3.05 ERA) will start for the Rays as he will take on right hander Gerrit Cole (3-3, 4.01 ERA) for New York. First Pitch is scheduled for 6:40 PM EST.
