FINS TO BREAK BANK FOR PACE?

A year after the Dolphins paid (wasted) $20 million in guaranteed money on linebacker Joey Porter, they might be getting ready to write a big check to another linebacker.

According to Alex Marvex of FOXSports.com, the Fins could be signing Cardinals linebacker Calvin Pace to "the same kind of mega-deal" that was received a year ago by Porter and by Adalius Thomas of the Patriots.

Such a move would immediately call into question Porter's future with the team. He's due to earn a base salary of $4.8 million in 2008.

It also might prompt 2006 NFL defensive player of the year Jason Taylor to blow his stack. There were rumblings a year ago that Taylor was not pleased that he didn't get an adjustment after Porter received his windfall. If the Fins do it again, that might be the last straw for Taylor.

While we wanted Pace back he was never in the cards for the Cards with or without Fitz.

As you would imagine I completely agree with that statement. The Cardinals have wanted to sign him since the middle of the year and Pace wanted nothing to do with it.

I say let the Dolphins break the bank for Calvin Pace. Thankfully we know better.

You're dead on there sir.

So long Calvin.. good luck on your next team.

No way we can keep this guy.

Especially at 20M. I think that he is worth about 10-12, and that's without adjusting much to the cap increase this year. Maybe a couple Mil more than that.

So losing Pace and B.J., the Cardinals may FINALLY get some compensation draft picks next year. (Desparately searching for the silver lining.)

Depends on how many qualifing free agents we sign. If we sign 3 or more then we are out of luck. Our best hope to make sure we do get comp picks next year is probably Vincent, Bailey, maybe even Hodel getting deals in free agency as well. Making that 5 qualifing free agents compared to lets say 5 depth players that we sign. We would then without question get 2 very good picks depening on how much BJ gets of course and if the rumors of what Pace could get are true.

I am going on record now as saying that I will be harrassing you Pace-haters relentlessly throughout the season as he quickly becomes a star elsewhere and we have no viable replacement.

That's fair. I'll be cheering on the current crop of Cardinal LB's, no matter who they are, but I'll read your posts none the less.

Face it, Pace is a back-up for us. If Leinart reverts to starter due to Coach Whiz's philosophy of not losing job to injury, then Chike does too.

We'll have another back-up next year at a much lower cap number.

Go Cards!!!

Actually, if we kept Pace, I'd be willing to bet that Berry would be slid to a reserve role behind Pace.

There is no question that that is what would have occurred, IMO. Just like if we were to hire a 30 year old waiter with an associate's degree from the University of Phoenix he could easily do a better job for the team than Graves.

No worries. People bag on PFT all the time and they are correct 90% of the time due to their only relaying other outlet's stories, 5% by making a guess and being right and wrong 5% of the time. ;)

That makes zero sense whatsoever. I am assuming you didn't get to watch the games last year.

Answer this for me. If Berry is good enough to start over Pace then why he he just take a pay cut, yet Pace is getting ready to be making 5Xs what Berry is getting?????
