We love our TIVO, we just can't figure out how to turn off the obnoxious sounds it makes :|

My purchase of TIVO was the one time when my wife initially said, "you spent money on that? why?" and then about a week later said, "this is the best money you have ever spent."

I like the sounds, but you can turn them off in the "setup" section, I think.

HIt the Tivo/Directv button at the top of your remote.

Then go to "Read new messages and setup"

Then "my preferences"

Then "audio options"

Then "sound effects volume"

Turn it to off.

Hey KoC do you have two feeds going into the Tivo? That makes a HUGE difference in the quality of the experience.

I don't know.

I know I can watch a show and tape to others at the same time.

What is the difference?

Instead of buying the DVR, you should have bought their stock. Unreal, TIVO announces a deal today with Comcast cable and the stock goes up 75% from 3.83 to 6.70 in one day!

This is the coolest thing I purchased in awhile. Especially since I am stuck at home. I always have something to watch.

I just got a Tivo through Directv today. It has a USB port on the back which I figure there is a way yo save some of these shows to my HD of my comp. Anyone know how to do this?

Not sure, but check out tivocommunity.com and their forums...look for the HD Tivo board...

Thats a negativo for USB support on the directv boxes, unless you hack it. Directv doesn't support a LOT of the features these boxes can do.

I have one in my bedroom that I wish I could get to work using a usb 802.11b wifi device I have, so I don't have the "make a phone call" annoying dialog all the time.

HMO = "home media option"

Also not supported by directv. That option is pretty cool too because if you have your tivos hooked up to a wifi network you can watch a show recorded in your family room on a tivo in a different room. Very cool. You can also set your tivo to record a show from any computer with internet access.

Thanks for the info Brat and Mike. I read about TivoToGo but it sounds like that is for a regular Tivo box, not the Directv with Tivo.
