I think we're okay with our starters, but I'd like to see some depth there.

I was thinking the same thing. There could also be some trade opportunities with teams that selected DB's early in the draft. It could make some veterans expendable.

ajcardfan said it in another thread. Remember that we still have lots of cap room to deal with so adding veterans before camp is not out of the realm of possibility.

I think it is very unwise to "hope" there are ample players on June 1 cuts. That is taking a risk that is simply misguided IMO. You have to use the draft to fill needs (as many as possible) and then IF you are lucky a June 1 cut or two will come about. To simply draft thinking you will get a guy June 1 is foolhardy.

How anyone is comfortable with Barrett play in and play out is beyond me. IMO, he is a good nickel but they needed another top flight CB and they are hoping someone gets cut June 1 or Barrett keeps playing like he did which I believe was over his head.

In my opinion, Barrett is an above average CB. If we had any pass rush, he would be considered one of the better ones in the league. He is a physical guy.

I really wish we didnt trade down. I didnt think there was anyway we trade with the Saints. I figured if we traded it would be within the top 10. Then we still can get Suggs or Trufant. If not we get a DT..

Exactly....We need a pass rush. We did not address that. Pace will not be ready. Look forward to us getting picked apart and watching Emmitt sit and stew since we have to air it out because WE PICKED UP THREE MORE WR!!!!

I went into the drafting wanting the Cards to draft the BPA and not make any reach / need picks. Well I don't think that was the case in rd 1 but did seem to be the pattern after that.

Boldin was a BPA that filled a need.

Hayes was a BPA that filled a need.

King was probably more of a need but in the 5th rd was a value pick.

I loved the OT in rd 6 from Clarion. His bio is very positive and he had to fall because of the competition question, what caliber of players did he face.

Gilbert in the 6th was another BPA pick who could fill an need on 1st and 2nd downs. Many have complained about McKinnons ineffectiveness against the run so here you go.

Vet WR from Lions - gunner and returner and was a Sully pick when he was in Detriot. Either we trust and like Sully or we don't.

Now we may not agree with McGraves draft board and who was the BPA available but that will be answered in the next 2 years.

If you were in the chat room today you heard me say we need to draft a friggin CB about 100 times, but come Sept if that player isn't on the team what good does it do any of us.

How you arent comfortable with Barrett playing is beyond me?

How many times was he torched last year as compared to Starks?

The dude is solid I really wonder if any of you guys really watched this guy last year? He is a good CB he is strong, quick, and very tenacious.

The guy makes plays and is a surfire tackler and superb in run support from the CB position!

If we somehow manage a pass rush before it is all said and dont our CBs will be just fine!

If he does the same this year, I will soften on it but I simply don't have the faith everyone else has. Much Like I was in the minority on Suggs, I know I am in the minority here.

A CB is not measured only by the times he was "torched". I measure him in that I think he did have a decent year last year (never once said he didn't) but I am also convinced he played at a level above his current athletic ability and he is unlikely to continue at that pace.

Can a pass rush help? Sure. I guess everyone is convinced simply putting a pass rush on will turn our CBs into Pro Bowlers. But I don't believe in Barrett long term. And I would submit neither do the Cards since it appears as though they aren't even trying to negotiate a long term deal with him...not exactly a ringing endorsement in most cases. I guess the Cards though know he is great but are choosing to test fate that he will leave after next year...ooops we have a boatload of cap space to get him signed long term.

The Cards obviously showed they think high of him when they gave him the HIGH tender offer thus requiring a first round pick to pry him away!

Also like has been mentioned you didnt see them draft and CBs did you? Sorry but that shows me they think highly of him as well. What other signs do you want them to show???

A contract could still come!

We will see this season. I simply think he is prime for a fall to very average status as a #2. I like him as a nickel because he can be matched up against lower level WRs but hey, like I said, almost everyone is happy as clams about him and I simply see a hole that needs filling. Guess it is a good thing I wasn't running the draft.:D

I agree with AZCB34

but let's put the Barrett debate aside for just a bit.

We don't have a quality #3 CB on this team. Anyone who is thrilled with Hill, Rhinehart and Stone is crazy.

We need another cover corner on this team even if Barrett is a Pro Bowler this year.

Which is really where I am coming from. I like Barrett as a #3 and think he could thrive there. I was touting Newman all off-season so it could be Starks Newman and Barrett (nickel). Add to that an imporved pass rush and the Cards would suddenly be in good shape.

If we are going to enter into the season with Barrett as #2, I agree wholeheartedly Cardiac. They had better get some depth behind the top 2 because unlike Tango, I don't see Stone breaking out of his funk, Hill is severely overmatched and Rhinehart is fair at best but not a nickel to me even.

Well I guess we can't fix everything in one draft but the defense getting trounced is getting more than old.

Many say we haven't fixed the pass rush issue and of course they may be right. Difference is we did draft two DE's this year have some players already on the roster that could help solve this problem.

Now with all the LB's this team has picked up this year and in previous years the team should be more than set.

Secondary however is still a concern with only Jackson added to help this unit. I see QB's improving their QB rating when they play the Cards.
