In the wake of the blockbuster Los Angeles Rams trade for Myles Garrett, it might be time for the San Francisco 49ers to try and go punch-for-punch with their divisional rival. That's why Bleacher Report's Alex Kay proposed a hypothetical trade that would send Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby to San Francisco. In the deal, the 49ers send a 2027 first-round pick, a 2027 second-round pick and a 2028 third-round pick to Las Vegas in exchange for the pass rusher.
If it comes to fruition, this would be the second time Crosby was traded this year. Crosby was tentatively traded to the Baltimore Ravens earlier this offseason for two first-round picks but after Crosby went through his physical, Baltimore informed Las Vegas it could not proceed with the trade due to medical concerns stemming from January knee surgery. The Ravens quickly pivoted, signing Trey Hendrickson to a four-year, $112 million deal. The episode left Crosby, who turns 29 in August, under a three-year, $106.5 million extension with $91.5 million guaranteed that runs through the 2029 season (although the final two years are non-guarenteed). The 49ers can afford it, though, given their NFL-leading $72 million in salary cap space. On the field, Crosby's numbers speaks for themselves. The five-time Pro Bowl selection has posted 69.5 sacks across 110 career games, including back-to-back double-digit sack seasons in 2022 (12.5) and 2023 (14.5). He added 10 sacks and a career-high 28 tackles for loss last season.Paired alongside Nick Bosa and Mykell Williams, Crosby would give San Francisco one of the most fearsome pass-rush trios in football — and a real answer to what the Rams just built around Garrett on the other side of the division.

An organization like the San Francisco 49ers, who appear to be a piece or two away from making yet another Super Bowl run, could offer a first-round pick plus additional compensation for Crosby.
While the costs of acquiring Crosby will be high, that investment would be well worth it for a 49ers team desperate to return to the top of the NFC West and finally claim a Lombardi Trophy under head coach Kyle Shanahan.
