Five-time world champion Brazil faces a difficult opener at FIFA World Cup 2026 when it takes on reigning Africa Cup of Nations titleholder Morocco on Saturday. The two teams will headline at MetLife Stadium in what looks likely to be one of the must-watch matchups featured on the opening weekend of this year’s tournament.

The Selecao have fresh hopes of ending their 24-year search for a world title with Carlo Ancelotti at the helm heading into his first major international tournament as a head coach. Brazil has warmed up well for World Cup 2026, having won its last three warm-up fixtures, averaging more than three goals scored per game in that span.
Morocco, meanwhile, is lurking as an underdog to top Group C after being awarded the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations crown under controversial circumstances earlier this year. This year’s final initially ended with a controversial 1-0 extra-time win for Senegal before the Atlas Lions were later awarded the 3-0 forfeit win following a review of Senegal’s conduct en route to a tainted finale victory.
Brazil is sweating on the fitness of icon Neymar, who is in a race against time to be fit as Ancelotti’s only injury concern following a calf knock picked up last month. Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi looks set to start at right-back after helping Paris Saint-Germain to the Champions League title; meanwhile, as his nation looks to build on its all-time best fourth-place finish in Qatar four years ago.
