On Friday night, baseball fans can enjoy the 2026 HBCU Swingman Classic, a game featuring college players from HBCUs that will take place in Citizens Bank Park in beautiful Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

For those wondering what the 2026 HBCU Swingman Classic is, here is the full explanation, according to MLB.com: “The HBCU Swingman Classic presented by USA Baseball highlights the history and legacy of HBCU baseball programs. 50 Division-I HBCU baseball players get the opportunity to showcase their talent on a national stage. The student-athletes are selected by a committee that will include Ken Griffey Jr., representatives from MLB, and scouts.”
Along with Griffey Jr., some other prominent names in baseball that will take part in the event this year are the MLB Network’s Harold Reynolds and Yankees broadcaster Dave Sims, as well as Hank Aaron’s granddaughter, Emily Haydel.
Griffey Jr. had the following to say about the importance of the event: “Trying to give these kids the opportunity to be seen, it’s an important thing. These kids can play … Having it at the All-Star Game, to kick the All-Star Week off, is very important. And Major League Baseball was behind it.”
The managers for each team are also well-known names in the game’s history: former Philadelphia Phillies star Jimmy Rollins, managing the National League team, and long-time MLB player Rickie Weeks Jr., managing the American League team.
This event is already making waves, as 10 players who have participated in past HBCU Swingman Classics have been drafted already, with Griffey’s being for 100 players from the event to one day be drafted.
