That's how long it had been since the country last qualified for the international tournament — after going winless in 1998, the Scottish failed to make their World Cup return until the 48-team iteration in 2026.
The Scotland fans proved their excitement to be back on the World Cup stage by reportedly setting a record as they belted their national anthem prior to Saturday's match vs. Haiti.

How Scotland fans created 'loudest noise ever' in World Cup history
For Scotland's return to the World Cup, they were placed in Group C at the draw, which resulted in their first match coming just across the Atlantic — Scotland vs. Haiti was held at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts, the home of the NFL's New England Patriots.
Considering the flight wasn't terribly long, Scotland fans showed out in Boston. The team went on to win 1-0, its first World Cup win in 36 years, but an estimated 50,000 Scotland fans were in attendance, per The Herald.
Additionally, it was reported by The Herald that during Scotland's pre-match national anthem, a 125-decibel sound level was recorded, which made it the loudest noise at a World Cup ever.

A noise record can be difficult to completely verify, but it is certainly believable that the Scottish national anthem made World Cup history on Saturday.
