Lionel Messi, as most soccer fans would have expected, has dominated the MLS since moving to Inter Miami.

The Argentine took a break from club football over the summer to compete at the World Cup, but he returned with a bang this week.

Miami competed in the Leagues Cup against Atletico de San Luis and came away with a 4-2 win after Messi netted twice.

His first goal was especially impressive, and after he found the back of the net in that game, he is now being predicted to reach over 1,000 goals by the time he is due to leave Inter Miami.

Lionel Messi could have over 1,000 career goals once his Inter Miami contract is up

Messi signed a contract extension with his current team in October 2025 that will keep him tied down until the end of the 2028 MLS campaign.

At present, the South American has a career record of 1,116 games, 921 goals and 419 assists.

In comparison, Cristiano Ronaldo has played 1,330 games, scored 976 goals and assisted 261.

While Messi is already ahead of Ronaldo on the assists front, he could well end up overtaking the 41-year-old on the goal front as well.

In a post shared by Winna F.C. on X/Twitter, they explained that ‘At this pace, Messi at the end of his Inter Miami contract in 2028 will have 1,000+ goals and 1,500+ G/A’.

It is suggested he will score 1021 goals and provide 484 assists, which could be enough to surpass Ronaldo, who is two years older than him.
