How Jarren Duran is eligible to play for Mexico in the World Baseball Classic originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Jarren Duran has left the Boston Red Sox for the honor of competing in the World Baseball Classic.
Duran's action gets underway Friday as he plays for Team Mexico in the WBC.
It's an intriguingly strong Mexican batting lineup that also includes the likes of Randy Arozarena and Alejandro Kirk.
For Mexico to make a bit of a run, it'll need its pitching to step up. It'll also need stars like Duran to shine bright on this international tournament stage.
Duran certainly has the talent to do so, and he'll get the chance to represent his heritage.

How is Jarren Duran eligible for Mexico in WBC?
Duran's eligibility comes from his father, Octavio.
Octavio was born in Mexico, according to The Sun.
His mother, Dena, has Puerto Rican roots, so Duran had multiple options for the WBC.

He actually suited up for Team USA back in the day as a younger ballplayer, but by the 2023 WBC, Duran had chosen to play for Mexico.
He's following the same path again for the 2026 tournament, hoping to lead his squad on a surprise run to the knockout rounds of the World Baseball Classic.
Duran is one of 15 Red Sox players slated to compete in the WBC, one of the largest totals across MLB.
