For the second time in three days, the Milwaukee Brewers have walked off the Miami Marlins.
After Garrett Mitchell was the hero on Friday night in a 10-inning game, William Contreras came off the bench in the seventh inning and later provided a game-sealing three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth.
The Brewers only needed two runs to win, but in the end, Contreras led them to a 3-1 victory.
That marks a sweep for the Brewers over the Marlins as they have a ton of momentum on their side to start the second half of the 2026 season. After this win, the Brewers improved to 62-37, and, most impressively, picked up their 29th comeback victory this season.
Manager Pat Murphy had to move a ton of pieces around as he pinch hit Contreras for right fielder Jake Bauers in the bottom of the seventh. Obviously, Contreras isn't a right fielder, so he shuffled Joey Ortiz from shortstop to third base, then brought in Luis Lara to play right field and had Cooper Pratt come off the bench to play shortstop.
Robert Gasser gave the Brewers life as he allowed just one earned run on three hits in his five-inning performance. Sadly for Gasser, the Brewers offense didn't exist at that point in the game.
Milwaukee only left four runners on base, and the vast majority of those came in the sixth inning. Despite having runners on second and third with no one out, Brice Turang struck out in 10 pitches, and then Andrew Vaughn hit into a double play just three pitches later.
When Contreras came in an inning later, he struck out in six pitches. Milwaukee was out-hit, 6-4, but the only thing that mattered in the end was Jackson Chourio hitting a leadoff single in the ninth followed by a Turang walk.
Contreras saw six pitches in his game-winning at-bat. He may have fallen behind 0-2, but he turned things around with a pair of foul balls followed by a 399-foot blast to dead center. All Pete Fairbanks could do was watch it fly over his head as the Marlins closer fell to 3-4 on the season.
The Brewers are now part of a three-way tie when it comes to the most comeback victories this season. This is a team that can't ever be counted out, and an all-around tremendous performance from this pitching staff was rewarded with Contreras' swing of the bat to send the fans home happy.
