The Chicago Bears made a big move ahead of free agency trading for New England Patriots center Garrett Bradbury, in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round pick, to fill a big hole on the offensive line.
The move comes after Drew Dalman's shocking retirement earlier this week after just five NFL seasons. Bradbury, who started all 17 games with the Patriots last season, reunites with former North Carolina State teammate Joe Thuney on Chicago's offensive line.
Last season with the Patriots, Bradbury started all 17 games and didn't allow a sack and committed zero penalties in 642 pass blocking-snaps, per Pro Football Focus.
Chicago lands an affordable center in Bradbury, who is set to carry a $4.6 million cap hit in 2026, according to Over the Cap. Bradbury signed a two year, $9.5 million deal with New England last offseason, so the Bears get him in the final year of his deal.
Over the Cap had the Bears at $31.38 million in cap space before Dalman's retirement hit the books, which would add $10 million and bring the cap to $41.38 million. With Bradbury's $4.6 cap hit, that leaves Chicago with $36.78 million in salary cap space. And there are sure to be other moves in the works for the Bears to free up additional room before free agency starts next week.
