How A.J. Brown Became Huge Patriots Fan Years Before Trade From Eagles: 'This Is My Team' originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
An A.J. Brown trade to the New England Patriots has felt written in the stars for months — but according to the star wideout, the connection was forged long before that.
The Patriots' new No. 1 receiver took to social media after the trade, ecstatic that the "waiting is over," and, in an interview with NBC's Maria Taylor, said that New England has been "my team since I was a kid."
Now, his childhood dream is complete.
Here's how Brown became a Patriots fan long before his arrival in New England.
How A.J. Brown became a Patriots fan
Long before Brown became a Patriot, he has had an inclination towards the team. In his interview with Maria Taylor, he said that the Patriots are "his team."
"This is my team," Brown said. "This is my team since I was a kid. I was doing what I was supposed to be doing with the Eagles, but this is it."
A.J. Brown had a Patriots rug in his home while he was a member of the Eagles.
"Some things just never change. This is my team. This is my team since I was a kid."

In the interview, Brown and Taylor are sitting on a Patriots rug, which Brown said has been in his house for years. Immediately after the trade, he was already holding a Patriots No. 11 jersey.
He also posted photos from his childhood in a New England jersey. For both the wide receiver and the Patriots organization, the waiting is officially over.

Additionally, Brown reunites with Mike Vrabel, who drafted the wide receiver with the Tennessee Titans in the 2019 NFL Draft. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Vrabel never wanted to trade Brown from the Titans, where he spent three seasons.
In Vrabel's first press conference since the trade, he joked about Brown being a Patriots fan growing up, saying he never wore Vrabel's jersey.
Mike Vrabel jokes about A.J. Brown’s “#Patriots fan growing up” story:
“He showed me pictures when he was a little kid wearing my jersey… He didn’t wear my jersey.
I think when we drafted him, he was like, ‘I wish the Patriots drafted me.’” pic.twitter.com/8ogmWKmXrq

He also discussed how Brown helps the Patriots as the new WR1.
“I think he loves football," Vrabel said when talking about Brown. "I think he has a physical skill set. I think he’s got great body control. I think he’s strong at the catch point. But I also think he’s grown as a player and as a receiver.”
Now, the receiver is officially a Patriot, serving as Drake Maye's top receiver as the Patriots look to build on a 14-3 season and Super Bowl appearance.
