Hornets draft Washington big man with No. 14 overall pick

The Charlotte Hornets finally got themselves a center, selecting former Washington big man Hannes Steinbach with the No. 14 overall pick. This is the second season in a row in which Charlotte drafted a center, after taking Ryan Kalkbrenner from Creighton in the second round of the 2025 draft. The German center had a standout season with the Huskies, averaging 18.5 points, 11.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.2 blocks and 1.1 steals. While Steinbach did showcase all-around talent in college, his shooting and, most importantly, defensive mobility will be put in question as a rookie.

Depending on how he fares in his first season with Charlotte, Hornets fans will either praise the selection or regret not trading it for an established NBA center instead.
