LORETTO – Hollidaysburg Area High School swept both the boys and girls team titles in the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference track and field championship meet Tuesday at St. Francis University.
A group of area athletes produced gold-medal performances in the conference meet.
Greater Johnstown High School’s 400-meter relay squad of Salindo Durant, Ronnison Edwards, Julius Reed and Zymir Reed placed first with a time of 43.20, edging runner-up Clearfield, as the Bison finished in 43.24.
Central Cambria’s Dom Kuntz won the boys 800-meter race in 2:01.66.
The Red Devils’ Ethan Haycisak took first place with a time of 9:54 in the 3200 meter event. Forest Hills’ Tyler Caron was second in 9:58.35.
Richland’s Brodie Hollis won the discus with a throw of 144-9, and the Rams’ Grayson Mahla placed first in the javelin with a 171-8.
Chestnut Ridge’s Aaron Ickes won the pole vault, clearing 13-6, followed by Richland’s Noah Lushko at 12-6 and Somerset’s Rodney Garwood at 12-0.
Hollidaysburg had 111 points in the boys event, with Richland finishing second at 107. Third-place Clearfield (65), Central Cambria (53) and Bedford (53) rounded out the top five spots, with the Red Devils and Bisons tying for fourth.
In the girls event, Central Cambria’s 3200-meter relay squad of Paige Alexander, Alaina Long, Abigail Sheehan and Alaina Sheehan placed first in 9:31.72.
Somerset’s Kamryn Ross won the 100-meter dash in 12.39 and the 200 race in 25.56.
The Golden Eagles’ Emily Fisher placed first in the 1600-meter run in 5:09.71. The race had a strong area showing, with Richland’s Natalia Mavridis (5:09.89) placing second, followed by Bedford’s Chloe May (5:15.39) and Central Cambria’s Alexander (5:21.01) to round out the top four.
Somerset’s 400-meter relay squad of Josette Smith, Eve Housley, Alexis Hillegass and Ross placed first in 50.15.
Bedford’s May placed first in the 3200-meter race in 11:19, with Somerset’s Fisher second in 11:20.65 and Richland’s Mavridis third in 11:26.38.
Bedford’s Rachel Weber won the shot put with a throw of 34.3.
Richland’s Karsyn Ford placed first in the pole vault, clearing 11-0.
The Hollidaysburg girls won with 86 team points, followed by Bedford (75.5), Somerset (75), Richland (66) and Bellwood-Antis (62.5) in the top five.
